The Authenticity of Ayurveda
The benefits of studying Ayurveda are unique to each student. We are all seeking healthier lives, and healthier families, and maybe some of you are interested in practicing Ayurveda professionally. Regardless of where our goals lay, we must begin the path with healing ourselves. Self-healing is the first step to healing others. In the beginning we apply our knowledge to restoring balance within ourselves. This is an ancient tradition in Ayurveda known as Swasthavritta. To live established in an unwavering knowledge of who we are, or swastha. The work is personal, vulnerable, and powerful. With time and self-study, Ayurveda will teach you to see more deeply into your own nature in new and transformative ways. Later, we will learn to apply the teachings to supporting others on their path to wellness. The longer we support others the deeper our own life insights become. In short, Ayurveda is a beautiful and spiritually fulfilling work.
Like any Vedic discipline, the study of Ayurveda appears difficult at first. Essentially, you are learning a new language – the language of nature, the nature of the body, and the body as natural living. Over time Ayurvedic studies will reveal deep insights about yourself, about others, and about life. It becomes intuitive and easier to apply. These insights into how life works are rarely known, and explain why so many suffer. Holding an accurate view of nature and of our body’s inherent natural intelligence can be a powerful source of healing inspiration for ourselves and for others.
On the Ayurvedic path, on your true path, authenticity is healing power. Being true to yourself is the highest expression of faith in yourself, and the only way to happiness and a lasting wellness. Ayurveda asks us to stay on our path. Half the work of a living Ayurveda is staying true to ourselves, in spite of the distraction of self-help gurus, food trends, and the “do what I do” marketplace around us. Be in your body, in your mind, in your heart – and care for yourself wisely. Be self-assured that you are as brilliant and magnificent as anyone else, and that your journey is equally worthy of love and vibrant health. Believe in your well-being. Believe that your body has a built-in intelligence and capacity to heal anything.
A skilled Ayurveda Wellness Counselor will tell you to be clear about the authenticity of who you are, and all that you need to stay in balance. You are one of a kind. Your life experiences, your childhood, your family karmas, your physical needs, your nutritional needs, your emotional needs – everything you need to stay alive and in balance is original, and as unique as the fingerprints on your fingers. You are like no one who has ever lived. You can’t heal yourself, or anyone else for that matter, by living someone else’s lifestyle, or eating someone else’s diet. To heal yourself, you must be you. To heal another, you must show them who they truly are by nature.
Who Takes the AWCP Trainings?
Though the AWCP is offered primarily through RYS Yoga Schools, it is not a yoga teacher training program, nor does one need to be a teacher to participate. The AWCP is truly designed for, and open to anyone. We have yoga teachers, yoga teachers in training, nutritionists, body workers, dietitians, psychologists, nurses, physical therapists, acupuncturists, medical doctors, and stay home moms in the room. Most students have no health care training at all. About a third of our students are yoga teachers by profession, and most are dedicated yoga practitioners. Yoga is, after all, an essential part of the Ayurveda daily routines (dinacharya) and a sister discipline.
Roughly half of our students take our Level 1 programs simply to enlighten their own personal health journey, or to better care for their families. We fully support the students who chose to do that. That’s why we split the program into three levels. Level 1 is an investment in personal and family growth. Level 2 & 3 are career investments. About half of our students will pursue professional practice with our advanced trainings.
